Section 65

67 of 362 sections in Elements of the Philosophy of Right by Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel

Musean translation

Machine-assisted Musean translation made directly from Hegel's German in the Berlin Nicolai first edition, dated 1821. Complete preface, introduction and sections 1–360, including the author's remarks and notes; no later Gans additions.

C. Alienation of Property

65 I can alienate my property, since it is mine only insofar as I put my will into it. I may thus relinquish my thing altogether as ownerless—abandon it—or leave it to the will of another to possess, but only insofar as the thing is by its nature something external.

Plain English translation

Independent machine-assisted Plain English translation made directly from the German first-edition source, not from the Musean edition or an existing English translation. Complete preface, introduction and sections 1–360 with the author's remarks and notes.

C. Giving up property

65 I can give up my property, since it is mine only insofar as I put my will into it. Thus I can simply leave my thing ownerless (derelinquire), abandoning it, or hand it over to someone else's will to possess—but only insofar as the thing is external by its nature.
