Musean translation
Machine-assisted Musean translation made directly from Hegel's German in the Berlin Nicolai first edition, dated 1821. Complete preface, introduction and sections 1–360, including the author's remarks and notes; no later Gans additions.
226 Chiefly the direction of the whole course of the inquiry, then the legal acts of the parties, which are themselves rights (§ 222), and then also the second side of the legal judgment (see the preceding §), is the proper business of the juridical judge, for whom, as organ of the law, the case must have been prepared for the possibility of subsumption, that is, raised out of its apparent empirical constitution into acknowledged fact and universal qualification.
Plain English translation
Independent machine-assisted Plain English translation made directly from the German first-edition source, not from the Musean edition or an existing English translation. Complete preface, introduction and sections 1–360 with the author's remarks and notes.
226 The conduct of the whole course of the investigation belongs especially to the proper business of the judge trained in law. So does the direction of the legal acts of the parties, which are themselves rights (§ 222), and also the second side of the legal judgment (see the previous §). For the judge, as the organ of the law, the case must have been prepared so that it can be subsumed. That is, it must have been lifted out of its apparent, empirical condition and raised to an acknowledged fact and a general qualification.
