Section 129

131 of 362 sections in Elements of the Philosophy of Right by Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel

Original German

129 Dritter Abschnitt.

Musean translation

129 Third Section.

The Good and Conscience.

The good is the Idea, as the unity of the concept of the will and the particular will — in which abstract right, as well as welfare and the subjectivity of knowing and the contingency of external being-there, are canceled as self-subsistent for themselves, but are thereby contained in it, and preserved, according to their essence — the realized freedom, the absolute final purpose of the world.

Plain English translation

Independent machine-assisted Plain English translation made directly from the German first-edition source, not from the Musean edition or an existing English translation. Complete preface, introduction and sections 1–360 with the author's remarks and notes.

129 Third Section.

The Good and Conscience.

The good is the idea as the unity of the concept of the will and the particular will. In it abstract right, welfare, the subjectivity of knowing and the contingency of external existence are canceled as independent for themselves, yet are contained and kept in it as to their essence. It is realized freedom, the absolute final aim of the world.
