Section 122
Musean translation
Machine-assisted Musean translation made directly from Hegel's German in the Berlin Nicolai first edition, dated 1821. Complete preface, introduction and sections 1–360, including the author's remarks and notes; no later Gans additions.
122 Through this particular the action has subjective worth and interest for me. Over against this purpose, the intention as to content, the immediate side of the action in its further content is reduced to a means. Insofar as such a purpose is a finite one, it can in turn be reduced to a means for a further intention, and so on to infinity.
Plain English translation
Independent machine-assisted Plain English translation made directly from the German first-edition source, not from the Musean edition or an existing English translation. Complete preface, introduction and sections 1–360 with the author's remarks and notes.
122 Through this particular side the action has subjective worth and interest for me. Measured against this aim, the intention in respect of content, the immediate side of the action, in its further content, is reduced to a means. Insofar as such an aim is finite, it can in turn be reduced to a means for a further intention, and so on without end.
