Section 329

331 of 362 sections in Elements of the Philosophy of Right by Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel

Musean translation

Machine-assisted Musean translation made directly from Hegel's German in the Berlin Nicolai first edition, dated 1821. Complete preface, introduction and sections 1–360, including the author's remarks and notes; no later Gans additions.

329 The state has its direction outward in being an individual subject. Its relation to others therefore falls to the princely power, to which it consequently belongs immediately and alone to command the armed force, to maintain relations with the other states through envoys and so on, and to conclude war and peace and other treaties.

Plain English translation

Independent machine-assisted Plain English translation made directly from the German first-edition source, not from the Musean edition or an existing English translation. Complete preface, introduction and sections 1–360 with the author's remarks and notes.

329 The state has its direction outward in that it is an individual subject. Its relation to others therefore falls to the power of the prince. So it belongs immediately and solely to the prince to command the armed force, to maintain relations with the other states through envoys and so on, and to conclude war and peace and other treaties.
