Section 298

300 of 362 sections in Elements of the Philosophy of Right by Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel

Original German

298 C. Die gesetzgebende Gewalt.

Musean translation

Machine-assisted Musean translation made directly from Hegel's German in the Berlin Nicolai first edition, dated 1821. Complete preface, introduction and sections 1–360, including the author's remarks and notes; no later Gans additions.

C. The Legislative Power

298 The legislative power concerns the laws as such insofar as they require further determination, and those internal affairs that are wholly universal in content. This power is itself a part of the constitution, which is presupposed for it and which to that extent lies in and for itself outside its direct determination, but it receives its further development in the elaboration of the laws and the progressive character of the universal affairs of government.

Plain English translation

Independent machine-assisted Plain English translation made directly from the German first-edition source, not from the Musean edition or an existing English translation. Complete preface, introduction and sections 1–360 with the author's remarks and notes.

298 C. The Legislative Power.

The legislative power concerns the laws as such, insofar as they need further development, and the internal affairs that are completely universal in their content. This power is itself a part of the constitution. The constitution is presupposed by it, and in that respect lies in and for itself outside its direct determination. But the constitution receives its further development through the continued development of the laws and through the advancing character of the universal affairs of government.
