Section 271
Musean translation
Machine-assisted Musean translation made directly from Hegel's German in the Berlin Nicolai first edition, dated 1821. Complete preface, introduction and sections 1–360, including the author's remarks and notes; no later Gans additions.
271 The political constitution is, in the first place, the organization of the state and the process of its organic life in its relation to itself, in which it differentiates its moments within itself and unfolds them into subsistence.
In the second place, as an individuality it is an exclusive One, which thereby relates to Others, turns its differentiation outward, and, in accordance with this determination, posits its subsisting internal differences in their ideality.
Plain English translation
Independent machine-assisted Plain English translation made directly from the German first-edition source, not from the Musean edition or an existing English translation. Complete preface, introduction and sections 1–360 with the author's remarks and notes.
271 The political constitution is, first, the organization of the state and the process of its organic life in relation to itself. In this process it distinguishes its moments within itself and develops them into an established existence.
Second, as an individuality, the state is an exclusive one and so relates to other states. It therefore turns its differentiation outward. In accordance with this determination, it sets the established distinctions within itself in their ideality.
