Immanuel Kant
Immanuel Kant was a German philosopher who lived and taught in Königsberg, Prussia. His Critique of Pure Reason (1781), revised in 1787, examined the powers and limits of human knowledge, and his Critique of Practical Reason (1788) and Critique of Judgment (1790) carried the same inquiry into morality and into beauty and living things. In What Is Enlightenment? (1784) he defended the public use of reason, and in Toward Perpetual Peace (1795, expanded 1796) he set out conditions for a lasting peace among states.
