Section 345
Musean translation
Machine-assisted Musean translation made directly from Hegel's German in the Berlin Nicolai first edition, dated 1821. Complete preface, introduction and sections 1–360, including the author's remarks and notes; no later Gans additions.
345 Justice and virtue, wrong, violence, and vice, talents and their deeds, the small and the great passions, guilt and innocence, the splendor of individual and national life, independence, fortune and misfortune of states and of individuals have their determinate meaning and worth in the sphere of conscious actuality, and find in it their judgment and their justice, though an imperfect one. World history falls outside these standpoints; in it that necessary moment of the Idea of the world spirit which is at present its stage receives its absolute right, and the people living in it and its deeds receive their fulfillment, and fortune and glory.
Plain English translation
Independent machine-assisted Plain English translation made directly from the German first-edition source, not from the Musean edition or an existing English translation. Complete preface, introduction and sections 1–360 with the author's remarks and notes.
345 Justice and virtue, wrong, violence and vice, talents and their deeds, small and great passions, guilt and innocence, the splendor of individual and national life, independence, and the good and bad fortune of states and of individuals all have their determinate meaning and value in the sphere of conscious actuality. In that sphere they find their judgment and their justice, which is, however, imperfect. World history falls outside these points of view. In world history, the necessary moment of the idea of the world spirit that is currently its stage receives its absolute right. The people living in that moment, and its deeds, receive their fulfillment, and their good fortune and glory.
