Musean translation

Complete machine-assisted Musean translation made directly from the Sanskrit, independently of the Plain English edition. All eight books and the closing invocation are retained.

3.11.1 Rising beyond that, it will neither rise nor set. It will stand alone in the middle. On this there is a verse:

3.11.2 There it never set, nor ever rose.Gods, by this truth, may I not fall away from Brahman.

3.11.3 For one who knows this secret teaching of Brahman thus, the sun neither rises nor sets. For that person it is day, once and forever.

3.11.4 Brahma told this to Prajapati; Prajapati told it to Manu; Manu told it to his descendants. His father taught this knowledge of Brahman to Uddalaka Aruni, his eldest son.

3.11.5 A father should teach this knowledge of Brahman to his eldest son, or to a trusted pupil.

3.11.6 He should teach it to no one else, even if someone gave him this whole earth, encircled by water and filled with treasure. This alone is greater than that; this alone is greater than that.

Plain English translation

Complete machine-assisted Plain English translation made independently and directly from the Sanskrit, not from the Musean edition. All eight books and the closing invocation are retained.

3.11.1 Then, after rising above all this, the sun will neither rise nor set. It will stand alone at the center. There is this verse about it:

3.11.2 "There it has never set and never risen at any time.Gods, by this truth, may I never fail Brahman."

3.11.3 For anyone who knows this secret teaching about Brahman in this way, the sun neither rises nor sets. For him it is day once and for all.

3.11.4 Brahma told this to Prajapati, Prajapati to Manu, and Manu to his descendants. A father told this teaching about Brahman to his eldest son, Uddalaka Aruni.

3.11.5 A father should tell this teaching about Brahman only to his eldest son, or to a trusted student who lives with him.

3.11.6 He should not tell it to anyone else, even if that person gave him this whole earth surrounded by water and filled with wealth. This is worth more than that. This is worth more than that.
