Letter 061 — LXI

61 of 172 parts in Letters to Josephine by Napoléon Bonaparte

Berlin, November 1, 1806.

Talleyrand has arrived and tells me, my friend, that you do nothing but weep. What more do you want? You have your daughter, your grandchildren, and good news; those are ample means of being content and happy. The weather here is magnificent; not a single drop of rain has fallen during the whole campaign. I am very well, and everything is going as well as possible. Goodbye, my friend, I have received a letter from M. Napoléon; I do not believe it is from him, but from Hortense. A thousand kind thoughts to everyone.

Berlin, November 1, 1806.

Talleyrand has just arrived, my friend, and tells me you spend all your time weeping. What is it you want? With your daughter, your grandchildren and good news, you have plenty to make you happy and content. The weather here is wonderful. Not one drop of rain has fallen during the whole campaign so far. I am keeping very well, and everything could not be better. Goodbye, my friend. I have received a letter from M. Napoléon; I think it is from Hortense rather than him. Many good wishes to everyone.
