Letter 045 — XLV

Lintz, November 5, 1805.
I am at Lintz. The weather is beautiful. We are twenty-eight leagues from Vienna. The Russians are not holding their ground; they are in full retreat. The house of Austria is in great difficulty; in Vienna, all the court's baggage is being evacuated. There will probably be news within five or six days. I long to see you again. My health is good; I embrace you.

Linz, November 5, 1805.
I am in Linz. The weather is fine. Vienna is twenty-eight leagues away. The Russians cannot hold their ground and are retreating rapidly. The House of Austria is in great difficulty; all the court's baggage is being taken out of Vienna. In five or six days there will probably be news. I very much want to see you again. I am in good health. A kiss to you.
