Letter 163 — CLXIII

163 of 172 parts in Letters to Josephine by Napoléon Bonaparte

Original French

Adieu, mon amie.

February 19, 1810.

My friend, I have received your letter. I wish to see you, but the reflections you make may be true. There may be some objection to our being under the same roof during the first year. Still, Bessières's country house is too far away for me to return; on the other hand, I have a slight cold, and I am not sure I shall go there. Farewell, my friend.

February 19, 1810.

My dear, your letter has reached me. I wish to see you, but perhaps your observations are sound. Our being in the same house during the first year may have its drawbacks. But Bessières's country place is too distant for me to make the return journey; besides, I have a slight cold and may not go at all. Farewell, my dear.
