Musean translation

Mouseia’s complete machine-assisted Musean translation, made directly from the Sanskrit of F. Max Müller’s 1881 Anecdota Oxoniensia edition, all 32 sections, with the printed section numbers kept.

Again the Blessed One said to the venerable Subhūti: "What do you think, Subhūti? Is there any dharma that the Tathāgata awakened to as 'unsurpassed perfect awakening'? Is there any dharma that the Tathāgata has taught?" The venerable Subhūti answered: "As I understand the meaning of what the Blessed One has said, there is no dharma that the Tathāgata awakened to as unsurpassed perfect awakening, and there is no dharma that the Tathāgata has taught. Why? What the Tathāgata has awakened to and taught cannot be grasped or spoken of. It is neither a dharma nor a non-dharma. Why? Because the noble persons are distinguished by what is unconditioned." [7]

Plain English translation

Mouseia’s complete Plain English edition, made independently and directly from the same Sanskrit, covering all 32 sections with the printed section numbers.

The Buddha asked Subhūti again: "What do you think? When the Tathāgata reached full awakening, did he awaken to any teaching as full awakening? Did he teach any teaching?" Subhūti said: "As I understand what the Blessed One has taught, the Tathāgata did not awaken to any teaching as full awakening, and he did not teach any teaching. Why? What the Tathāgata awakened to and taught cannot be grasped or described. It is neither a teaching nor a non-teaching. Why? Because the noble ones are known through what is beyond conditions." [7]
