Plain English translation

Complete machine-assisted Plain English translation made independently and directly from the Sanskrit, not from the Musean edition. All eight books and the closing invocation are retained.

3.1.1 The sun up there is the gods' honey. Heaven is its crossbeam, the space between earth and heaven is its honeycomb, and the rays are its young.

3.1.2 Its eastward rays are its eastern honey channels. The Rig verses are the bees. The Rigveda is the flower. The waters are nectar.

3.1.3 Those Rig verses heated this Rigveda. From it, when heated, came fame, radiance, the power of the senses, strength, and the essence of food and eating.

3.1.4 This flowed out and gathered around the sun. It is the red appearance of the sun.
