8.11.1 "When a person is asleep, wholly gathered in and serene, knowing no dream, this is the Self," he said. "This is the immortal, the fearless; this is Brahman." Indra departed with a peaceful heart. But before he reached the gods, he saw this danger: "In this state that one does not know itself as 'I am this,' nor does it know these beings. It seems to have entered utter destruction. I see no benefit in this."
8.11.2 He returned, fuel in hand. Prajapati said to him, "Maghavan, since you departed with a peaceful heart, what do you desire in returning?" 8.11.1 "When someone is asleep, completely gathered together and at peace, without knowing any dream—that is the Self. It is immortal and free from fear. It is Brahman." Indra left feeling satisfied. I see nothing satisfactory in this."
8.11.2 He returned with firewood in his hand. Prajapati asked him, "Maghavan, you left feeling satisfied. What do you want that has brought you back?" Indra answered, "Sir, in that state this one does not know itself as 'I am this,' and does not know these beings either. It seems to have entered complete destruction. I see nothing satisfactory in this."
8.11.3 "That is how it is, Maghavan," Prajapati said. "But I will explain this further to you. It is nothing other than this. Stay another five years." Indra stayed another five years. That made a hundred and one years. This is why people say, "Maghavan lived as a celibate student with Prajapati for a hundred and one years." Then Prajapati told him:
