Musean translation

Complete machine-assisted Musean translation made directly from the Sanskrit, independently of the Plain English edition. All eight books and the closing invocation are retained.

6.14.1 "My dear, suppose someone brought a man blindfolded from Gandhara and left him in a deserted place. He would cry out toward the east, or the north, or the south, or the west, having been brought blindfolded and left blindfolded.

6.14.2 "Then suppose someone removed his blindfold and told him, 'Gandhara lies in this direction. Go this way.' Instructed and discerning, he would ask his way from village to village and reach Gandhara itself. Just so, here a person who has a teacher comes to know. For him the delay lasts only until he is released; then he becomes one.

6.14.3 "That subtle essence—all this has that as its Self. That is the real. That is the Self. You are that, Shvetaketu." "Sir, make me understand further." "So be it, my dear," he said.

Plain English translation

Complete machine-assisted Plain English translation made independently and directly from the Sanskrit, not from the Musean edition. All eight books and the closing invocation are retained.

6.14.1 "My dear, suppose someone brought a man from Gandhara blindfolded and left him in a deserted place. He might cry out toward the east, north, south, or west. He had been brought there blindfolded and left there blindfolded.

6.14.2 "Suppose someone took off his blindfold and told him, 'Gandhara is in this direction. Go this way.' Being informed and intelligent, he would ask his way from village to village and arrive in Gandhara. In just the same way, a person here who has a teacher knows. For that person, there is only this delay: 'I must wait until I am released. Then I will become united.'

6.14.3 "This finest essence is the Self of this whole world. That is what is real. That is the Self. You are that, Shvetaketu." "Sir, please help me understand this further." "Yes, my dear," he said.
