John Dee
John Dee was an English mathematician, astronomer, astrologer and book collector. He advised Elizabeth I and her court on navigation and on the calendar, and kept one of the largest libraries in England at Mortlake. His works include the Monas Hieroglyphica, printed at Antwerp in 1564, and the mathematical preface to the first English Euclid of 1570, which set out the whole range of the mathematical sciences for English readers.
